Stacy I’s Story

In 2022, after caring for both of my parents until their passing and tending to my own family, I was ready to show the world the new me! Having shed 130 lbs, regained my health, and felt pretty for the first time in a long while, I attended my 40th high school reunion feeling amazing. However, the following week upon returning home, I discovered a significant lump in my breast. Immediately, I went for my yearly mammogram, followed by an immediate ultrasound upon detection of the lump. The expression on the technician's face prompted her to fetch the radiologist.

After further ultrasound scans, the radiologist mentioned the advancements in treatment nowadays. It turned out to be breast cancer. The biopsies confirmed the presence of cancer in my breast tumor and lymph nodes. An appointment with an oncologist was scheduled, who initially diagnosed me with stage 2 based on the scans and discussed treatment options. Seeking a second opinion, I requested a PET scan, revealing cancer in my pelvic bone. Subsequent biopsies confirmed it to be breast cancer, now progressed to stage 4. Immediately, radiation treatment commenced on my pelvis, followed by medication with Ibrance and Arimidex. Additionally, bone infusions were initiated by my oncologist.

Although I haven't undergone surgery or intravenous chemotherapy yet, the current treatment is proving effective. However, I'm bracing myself for any future developments. I understand that one day, the other shoe will drop, but I'm determined to stay strong. Come July, it will mark two years since my diagnosis.

While still in disbelief, I strive to spread awareness and encourage others to advocate for themselves, urging them to seek second opinions and PET scans. If I can assist just one person, it will be worthwhile. I'm learning to cherish every aspect of life and not take anything for granted. Approaching my 60th year, I'm embarking on a new chapter in life and longing to visit the beach, my happy place.
