Maria M’s Story

I am 58 years old. March 2023 was monumental for me, and everything seemed fine. However, in July, while I was looking after my grandson, he accidentally kicked me in the left breast. While rubbing the area, I noticed a very small lump. I promptly visited my primary care physician (PCP), who ordered further tests and eventually a biopsy.

The test results confirmed breast cancer, Stage 1B. I underwent surgery, during which the tumor was successfully removed. Additionally, the examination of lymph nodes revealed that 3 out of 10 contained some cancer cells. Currently, I am undergoing chemotherapy and will proceed with radiation once chemotherapy is completed. There is no cancer detected elsewhere in my body, but it remains a bit challenging.

Despite this, I continue to care for my grandson, as he gives me the motivation to love and care for him even more. He is my savior because without that accidental kick, I might not have discovered the tumor. Although some days I feel tired, the joy of looking after him makes it all worthwhile.
