Melissa’s Story

I'm Melissa, and on May 12, 2023, I was diagnosed with stage II, grade 3 invasive ductal carcinoma. I'm a wife, a mom to two little ones ages 6 and 4, and I work as a high school teacher in Texas.

It's been quite a journey—I've gone through 8 rounds of chemo, had a double mastectomy, another surgery for lymph node removal, and this month, I'm kicking off 5 weeks of radiation.

Looking ahead, reconstruction is on the agenda for this summer. Alongside all of this, I'm also undergoing hormone treatments for my estrogen-positive diagnosis.
