Anna’s Story

Following my annual mammogram, which led to an ultrasound, MRI, and biopsy all within the month of October, I received the call confirming what my instincts had anticipated but still hit me profoundly – the breast biopsy was positive, indicating I have invasive ductal carcinoma, breast cancer. I distinctly recall asking the doctor over the phone if the lesion could be removed, so I could be done with it. Unfortunately, his response was no; I would require surgery and treatment. He assured me by assigning a nurse navigator to assist with all my upcoming appointments.

I didn’t think this could happen to me, especially since I had experienced no signs or pain. On December 18th, I underwent lymph node removal for biopsy, revealing that two nodes tested positive for cancer. The journey ahead includes radiation, and depending on the outcome of my mastectomy scheduled for January 11th, chemotherapy may or may not be necessary.

While cancer may take certain things from me, it will not rob me of myself. There is undoubtedly a challenging road ahead, but it's one that I approach with confidence and strength.
