Stephanie K’s Story

Hi. I was in a car accident on the 28th. Even though I received minimal injuries, they still did a CT scan from my neck to my knee. The doctor came in and told me that everything looked good, but I have a 1.8 cm mass in my left breast that I need to get looked at.

I had a mammogram and sonogram on Dec. 13 and found that it was now two masses and an area of calcification deposits. I had to go back for three biopsies on Dec. 15. On Dec. 22, I was told that one mass was benign, one was positive for cancer, and the deposits were precancerous. We decided to do a breast MRI at the beginning of January, which showed a second area of calcified deposits.

We did another biopsy two weeks later and decided a mastectomy should be done. I had my first partial mastectomy on Jan. 8, where they found cancer cells in my lymph nodes, but not from spreading, thankfully. We’re waiting to hear back on my Oncotype levels to see if I would benefit from chemo. Once that is all done, I will have a full double mastectomy in 4–6 months.

Thank you,

Stephanie
