Lauren’s Story

Hi, I am Lauren.

I am nominating myself for a box. I was diagnosed in the hospital in September of 2022. I had been working as a hospice nurse and CNA instructor. I taught people how to be nursing aides all throughout covid and was passionate about the people I took care of. All sick people deserve care no matter their situation—and deserve to be treated as humans.

Being a nurse was a huge part of my identity. Now living with Ovarian Cancer has changed me from being a happy-go-lucky person to someone I barely recognize. I want so badly to help others not go through this awful disease. I will be receiving chemo for the rest of my life. This journey has been challenging. As soon as I get better, or things seem to be going right something else happens. Currently waiting for insurance to approve me to have a bone graft and biopsy of the necrotic bone in my jaw. Hoping it's not more cancer.

I miss patient care so much, and taking care of and advocating for others. That's my story.

-Lauren
