Katrina’s Story

Hi! I was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma, Nottingham grade 3, triple-negative breast cancer on Aug. 8, 2024. Because it is triple-negative, the cancer is aggressive. The treatment plan includes chemotherapy followed by a lumpectomy and then radiation.

I had a Mediport inserted in my chest on Sept. 11, 2024, and received my first round of chemotherapy on Sept. 12. The plan includes four biweekly doses of Adriamycin and Cytoxan, followed by 12 weekly doses of Taxol starting Nov. 7, 2024. About a month after my final chemotherapy treatment, I will undergo a lumpectomy.

I will be on leave from work during this treatment plan with a reduction in pay through my long-term insurance plan. My husband will continue working full time. We have an 11-year-old daughter at home who sometimes struggles to process her feelings about what is happening.

My lumpectomy has been scheduled for March 3, and I finished my last chemotherapy treatment on Jan. 30.

Thank you,

Katrina
