Jessica G’s Story

I was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer on September 19, 2023. I was shocked; I had no clue about cancer and its implications. The first thing I did was undergo egg freezing. Mind you, I am only 34 years old. This entire ordeal was mind-blowing for me, my family, and my boyfriend.

My first round of chemo was difficult. I ended up in the hospital for four days, experiencing severe vomiting and indigestion. Finally, on the fourth day, I was discharged, relieved to be home in a safe place. It took a few days for my stomach to settle down. I was stuck eating rice and soup every day. I was fed up with that and craved real food. My body didn't understand what was happening.

I had a port implanted in my body. I took my nausea medication every day just so I could eat something. My appetite was okay. After the third round of chemo, my hair started falling out. That's when I truly realized I had cancer, and it made me angry and upset. "Why me?" I thought. I decided to shave my head in October because I couldn't bear it anymore. It would just stir up my emotions every time my hair fell out after showering.

Then I ordered my first two wigs, and I must say, I became addicted to wigs. It got really bad; every other week, I would order a new wig online. I had fun choosing a different wig and being a different person every day. It definitely boosted my self-confidence.

I am now on my second round of chemotherapy, and it's challenging due to the neuropathy in my hands and feet. Some days, I don't want to get out of bed or do anything because the pain is so bad. I finished my chemotherapy on February 22. I will also be undergoing breast surgery and then radiation.
