Heather’s Story

As a pediatric cardiology professional, my patients have been inspiring me daily for years. In April, my world turned upside down and I found myself in the patient’s chair.

I had a swollen lymph node removed from my neck and it tested positive for nodular lymphoma. That same month, I was diagnosed with an aggressive melanoma on my back which resulted in an additional surgery removing more lymph nodes. Shortly after that, my hematologist ordered a PET scan and I was subsequently diagnosed with bilateral breast cancer. I had a mastectomy in August followed by reconstruction.

I’ve just started my medical therapy for breast cancer, and will continue getting monitored every three months for both melanoma and lymphoma. 2023 was a whirlwind of diagnosis and surgeries. I am hoping 2024 will be a time to heal and treat.
