Edwina’s Story

Edwina was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2020, despite being considered too young by her doctor, and completed treatment in 2021. Unfortunately, she experienced a recurrence in January 2022, discovered after her cat Trixie scratched her. She is currently on indefinite treatment, Edwina's cancer is contained in the breast. She has been undergoing treatment for 2 years continuously, with only a 3-month break before the recurrence.

A former math teacher, Edwina had to stop working due to her diagnosis. An avid animal lover, especially cats, and a passionate rugby fan, she attends games when possible.

Despite the challenges, Edwina is a dedicated advocate for breast cancer awareness. Her goal is to implement a cancer awareness program in all Irish schools, focusing on teaching students self-checks and recognizing signs and symptoms, particularly for breast cancer. She emphasizes the importance of knowing one's norm, as young people are often dismissed in medical concerns.

Over the tough three years, Edwina's immune system has been severely affected by treatment. As a result, she has spent most of the last three years cocooning to avoid illnesses, prioritizing her ongoing treatment.
