Brittany’s Story

Hi, my name is Brittany and I’m a previvor! My journey began more than 10 years ago at age 28 when I discovered my first lump. Two weeks later, it was surgically removed—it was the size of an orange but, thankfully, benign. Since then, I’ve had regular mammograms. In December 2023, I found another lump. It was monitored and removed in July 2024 after it grew. Both tumors have been different types, but fortunately, both were benign, though the last one was described as “murky and suspicious.”

I have two paternal aunts and two maternal aunts who have had breast cancer. My breast cancer risk is nearly 30%, so I have decided to undergo a prophylactic bilateral mastectomy on April 7. My insurance will not approve a breast MRI since I am not yet 40, but they will approve the surgery. I would rather take control than wait for a diagnosis.
