Ashley’s Story

Hi, my name is Ashley.

I am 27 years old, and I am a mother of two. I found out I have infiltrating duct carcinoma breast cancer. I’m not really sure what to expect, but it’s a little scary being that I live alone in NC, and my whole support system is in NY. My kids aren’t even here with me. I’m thankful that my kids are in Nevada with their father during this time, though, so they don’t have to see me sick or recovering. I meet tomorrow with my surgeon to discuss the game plan and find out more about the type of cancer I have.

I never thought it would be me, though. I never thought that I would have cancer. You hear about it all the time, though, but it’s just a “thing” until you get it. I’m not really sure what else to share. I just know I’m scared. I’m scared of losing my confidence and my identity.

Thank you for reading. I wish I had more or more positive things to say, but I’ve been trying to keep a brave face for everyone, and this has been the one time I’ve been honest about my thoughts.

-Ashley
