Jackie’s Story

Hi, I am Jackie.

My sister passed away in July of 2021, and my husband and I had been trying to get pregnant with our second child for a while, but it wasn’t happening. I ended up getting pregnant just one month after my sister passed (I give her all the credit for making it happen). So, fast forward, during my pregnancy, I started experiencing breast pain and what looked like a rash. (I’m a nurse, and nurses are known for not being good patients), so if I wasn’t already going to my OB appointments, I wouldn’t have gone to the doctor for it.

So I went for an ultrasound, and the radiologist said it was just inflammation but wanted more imaging. Well, my son decided he was going to come 5 weeks early, so while I was in the hospital after giving birth, my OB decided to do a skin biopsy while I was there, which confirmed the cancer diagnosis.

I started chemo the day my son left the NICU. So since my son came 5 weeks early, I got my diagnosis 5 weeks sooner and started treatment 5 weeks sooner. So I call him my miracle baby because he saved my life! And boy, my boys and my husband have been my drive through all of it!
